A2 Work

Evaluation of our media final film

Did you experience limits/blocks on your own creativity?

Yes, my group and I were quite fond of the idea of having a car scene in our opening title sequence but as we didn’t have a budget or good enough camera and microphone equipment the whole idea seemed impossible to do.  We spent hours thinking up different scenarios in which the car could possibly be featured in but we were too limited in our thinking to include it.

How easy/difficult was it to be creative while still working to the brief?

It was quite hard to be creative because in the opening two minutes of a conventional action thriller film generally has a calm atmosphere.  We wanted our opening sequence to be interesting without breaking the barriers of what a conventional, good action thriller would consist of.   We managed to engage our audience whilst screening it to them so I think we done a very god job with our creation.

Did working within conventions stifle your creativity?

Yes, the conventions of an action/thriller are quite constricting especially because we had to create the first two minutes of one.  There weren’t much excitement and fun things we could put in there as the beginning of an action thriller is usually the part with all the mystery and the part with the calm atmosphere.

To what extent did you need to work with others and ‘bounce ideas’ off other people to be truly creative?

There were points where we needed to discuss the characters, the settings and the locations of where we were going to film and we needed to create music for our film.  We bounced location ideas such as: Victoria Park, Clissold Park and Highbury Park.  We chose Clissold Park because of its calm atmosphere and its open areas; there are not many people with children strolling through disturbing our filming.

How much of your creativity was about trial and error?

Not a lot because we did plan thoroughly beforehand.  You could say that the process of planning was trial and error; somebody pitched an idea, we evaluated and discussed whether it was a good enough idea or not.

To what extent was a lack of confidence an issue in terms of your creativity?

There wasn’t really a lack of confidence in our group, everybody was confident in their field.  For example, I’m good with technology and the camera so there was no lack of self confidence in that.  Also, Daniel (the actor and editor in our group) is actually an actor on television so he’s more than confident in his field and his role in our film.

To what extent was a lack of technical competence/confidence an obstacle to your creativity?

The lack of there being good enough microphone and we didn’t have a boom microphone to cut out the air and the background noise made it difficult to get a good quality sound for our film.  For example, the dialogues at the end of our film was muffled and not clear to the audience so we had to go through the process of recording that again so the sound quality is better.  The outcome of the re-recording benefited us greatly because we gained marks out of it.
